F A Q

Who Are Our Courses For?
Clinicians, Educators, & Coaches.
We do not offer training directly to patients.

Can I Get CEC's?
YES! Our courses offer between 35 and 50 CE's. Our  CE courses are approved / accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), California’s Boards of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, and (for most) BCIA.

How Do I Know These are Quality Courses?
Our Programs, Courses and Instructors are independently evaluated by state and national organizations, such as BCIA, APA, and NBCC so you can be assured of a top notch experience.

Are our Courses Approved by BCIA?
YES! We provide the required training for certification in general biofeedback, EEG biofeedback / neurofeedback, and pelvic floor disorders. You can also use our courses for recertification.

What Education Level Are Our Courses Set At?
Postgraduate (Masters and Doctorate level).
Note that these are difficult courses. They require about the same amount of time, work, and effort as any three credit graduate science class.

How Do I Take (sign-up for / register for) a Course?
These are distance education courses. Just purchase the course here at our web site and use our secure ordering site to pay by credit card or check in US funds. You can start when you wish to and work at your own pace.

What Are Classes Like?
The courses are very similar to “in-person” courses except that you communicate with your instructor via phone or e-mail. We make sure every student gets personal attention from instructors with decades of experience. You receive CDs containing audiovisual lectures, reading material files, movies, etc. You start the class when you are ready and work at your own pace. For most courses you also read a required text. After you attend each lecture, you answer a set of short essay questions and e-mail them to your instructor. You and your instructor communicate by e-mail or phone to go over any questions you have and to add additional information you may want.

Welcome to The Behavioral Medicine Research and Training Foundation

We offer distance education courses in Biofeedback and related courses. Courses are designed to meet the requirement for biofeedback certification via the BCIA and also offer CE credits.

Our services are for clinicians, coaches, educators, and academic research professionals who want to incorporate biofeedback and applied psychophysiology into their practices. We provide biofeedback training to professionals from all over the world!

The Foundation was established in January, 2000 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of research and education in clinical behavioral medicine.

Quality Assurance:

When you take a CE course, how do you know that its content is any good?
Don’t take the instructor’s or organization’s word!  Look for independent evaluation of the program, courses, and instructors:

The program:

The Foundation’s program has been evaluated for quality by national and state level organizations such as the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), the American Psychological Association, and California’s Boards of Behavioral Sciences and Psychology. The Behavioral Medicine R&T Foundation is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. The Foundation maintains responsibility for this program and its content.

The courses:

Most of the Foundation’s courses have been evaluated for content and quality of presentation by national and state level organizations such as the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America (BCIA), California’s Board of  Psychology, NBCC, and the California Physical Therapy Association.

The instructors:

The Foundation’s instructors are recognized as highly competent by their academic and clinical peers who promoted them academically, selected them for competitive grants (from NIH, the VA, the military, and private organizations), and accepted their publications in high quality, peer reviewed journals.

When you purchase courses from the Foundation, you get personal attention from our instructors, each of whom have decades of experience in psychophysiology. They can help you with decisions on which equipment to purchase, guide you through psychophysiological portions of interventions with complex patients, etc. Our courses can be started at your convenience and you progress at your own rate. You will interact with your instructors by e-mail at each stage in the course and learning process.

Besides online classes, we also offer:

Consultations: The Foundation provides consultation to clinicians on performing psychophysiologically based assessments and interventions. Our team of highly experienced experts can guide you to incorporating psychophysiological techniques into your practice and help you handle the most difficult patients. We also provide consultation to clinicians and students on research design and performance in psychophysiology. We’ll even loan you equipment to help get your research going.

Hands-On Training: We can conduct mentoring and training for people anywhere in the world because we use programs which show us what trainees’ computers are doing as they conduct assessments and interventions and can listen to the session through voice over internet protocols such as SKYPE.

Conferences: The Foundation hosts telephone conferences in which key experts gather to discuss crucial issues in psychophysiology. If you would like to suggest and / or chair such a conference, press here.

Please note: Interested primarily in EEG? We do not offer a neuroanatomy only basic course. The material on neuroanatomy in our A&P course and our EEG biofeedback / neurofeedback course provides the essential information you need to understand how brain structures and functions impact on EEG biofeedback. Of most importance, typical neuroanatomy courses do NOT include much of the crucial information you need to know about how hormones and other functions influence the brain and can overwhelm anything we do with neurofeedback. People who want more depth in neuroanatomy and neurophysiology should take our advanced psychoneurophysiology course.
