Computer and Computer Knowledge Requirements: Anybody with a modern computer and a bit of basic understanding of computer operation (at the level of being able to send e-mails) can play this course with minimal problems. You must have a computer (a) containing a CD read or RW drive (b) capable of connecting to the internet and running a typical internet program, (c)  containing/running a modern word processor such as Microsoft word or Word Perfect, (d) the capability to play sounds such as music (has speakers and appropriate software which normally come with any modern computer), and (e) a slide viewing program such as Power Point (you can probably get a slide viewing program free off the internet if you don't have one). Any modern (e.g. built within the last ten years), IBM style computer running Windows 98 and more recent platforms (e.g. XP) should be able to do this. Speed, hard disk size, and RAM are not factors for computers in the above category. Dozens of students have used recent Apple products (MACs etc.) for the course but some have had difficulty hearing the lectures and seeing the slides simultaneously. Apple product users frequently have more difficulty playing the course.

You need to have a working internet connection (normally through an internet service provider - ISP), know how to communicate via e-mail including either how to send an MS Word / Word Perfect attachment or how to cut and paste text from a word processor into an e-mail message. You need to be sure your computer's speakers are on so you can hear the lectures. You may want to test your computer by checking to be sure it can play music from a CD.

Refund, cancellation, & CD replacement policies:  Full refund until the CDs are mailed to you. After the CDs are mailed, there is no refund at all as the Foundation has committed its resources to you. A course would only be cancelled due to an extreme emergency on the part of the course instructor or the Foundation. In the highly unlikely event a course is cancelled, you would receive a full refund. There is a $20 charge to replace lost course CDs.

F A Q

Who Are Our Courses For?
Clinicians, Educators, & Coaches.
We do not offer training directly to patients.

Can I Get CEC's?
YES! Our courses offer between 35 and 50 CE's. Our  CE courses are approved / accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC), California's Boards of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, and (for most) BCIA.

How Do I Know These are Quality Courses?
Our Programs, Courses and Instructors are independently evaluated by state and national organizations, such as BCIA, APA, and NBCC so you can be assured of a top notch experience.

Are our Courses Approved by BCIA?
YES! We provide the required training for certification in general biofeedback, EEG biofeedback / neurofeedback, and pelvic floor disorders. You can also use our courses for recertification.

What Education Level Are Our Courses Set At?
Postgraduate (Masters and Doctorate level).
Note that these are difficult courses. They require about the same amount of time, work, and effort as any three credit graduate science class.

How Do I Take (sign-up for / register for) a Course?
These are distance education courses. Just purchase the course here at our web site and use our secure ordering site to pay by credit card or check in US funds. You can start when you wish to and work at your own pace.

What Are Classes Like?
The courses are very similar to "in-person"¯ courses except that you communicate with your instructor via phone or e-mail. We make sure every student gets personal attention from instructors with decades of experience. You receive CDs containing audiovisual lectures, reading material files, movies, etc. You start the class when you are ready and work at your own pace. For most courses you also read a required text. After you attend each lecture, you answer a set of short essay questions and e-mail them to your instructor. You and your instructor communicate by e-mail or phone to go over any questions you have and to add additional information you may want.

Coaching Package for Patients
with Stress-Related Aches and Pains

$300 for CD containing entire package

This package is for sale only to appropriately credentialed clinicians. It is not sold to patients.

Purpose of the program: This 8 to 10 week mind-body awareness and control program is for essentially healthy adults who experience aches and pains due to keeping their bodies too tense for too long after normal stress responses. It is intended to help people learn to recognize how their bodies respond to stress and teach ways to control these responses so they do not remain tenser than necessary for longer than necessary. The program does not replace your own individualized assessment or intervention. It is intended to augment your own therapeutic approach. You can sell an unlimited number of copies of the program’s CDs to your patients by copying them yourself. You can not sell the CDs for use by other therapists.

Your role in the program as the patient’s therapist: You can add this set of exercises to your usual interventions to help your patients learn to recognize and control their stress responses. They work best if you can spend a session explaining the exercises and actually performing the first exercise with the patient so he or she can ask questions and you can correct common errors such as tensing too much. The program is provided on two CDs. The first contains this introductory information and the scripts for each exercise. You can use the scripts to record the exercises in your own voice. The second CD contains recordings of each exercise as well as a general introduction. You can copy and give the CD to your patients without more than the most cursory introduction. Obviously, you need to encourage your patients to continue to perform the exercises and check on their progress. Numerous studies have shown that, among patients who perform the exercises, just as much benefit is accrued by only doing them at home as by coming to the clinic to perform them.

Training not treatment: This is a self-awareness program rather than a treatment. Obviously, you will be incorporating it into your overall treatment program for each of your patients as appropriate. The program is not intended to treat any disorders or for people who have significant illnesses. Clients having a disorder requiring medical attention caused or significantly worsened by stress, must not participate in the program except under your direct supervision as a clinician who is appropriately trained and licensed to care for the patient’s problem.
